Heart Facts

In the UK, approx 300,000 people have a heart attack each year.

Did you know that 38% of deaths from heart disease in women are associated with lack of physical activity; 47% are linked to high cholesterol and 6% are caused by being very overweight?

Every day in the UK 700 people suffer a heart attack – that’s one every 2 minutes.

Around 20% of CHD-related deaths in men and 17% in women are attributable to smoking.

Did you know that exercise increases the amount of HDL (“good”) cholesterol helping to lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, which is why it’s good for your heart.

Did you know that your arteries, veins and capillaries combined are over 60,000 miles long which is long enough to go around the world … twice.
