Gareth Knight

Gareth is originally from Barry in Wales, home of the sitcom Gavin and Stacey! He was born partially sighted and had to have a cornea graft on his right eye when he was a few months old.

Gareth went to a primary school that had a partially sighted and blind unit, but moved to an integrated high school close to his home when he was older.  Although he coped okay at first, he found it a struggle to keep up and so left with very few qualifications.

Gareth grew up listening to BBC comedy shows that his parents listened to and he says, ‘I remember radio as always being a part of my life.’ Therefore, it was a logical step in 1995 for him to start a media course at a college in Cardiff.

"I’m very happy to be doing what I love, and hope to be presenting shows with Insight Radio for many years to come."

As well as studying media at college Gareth also joined Rookwood Sound Hospital Radio based in Cardiff where he presented various shows.

In 2002 Gareth started work at 118 UK taking directory enquiry calls and then moved to Vodafone mobile registrations.

However, he had to give up his job in 2007 as his sight deteriorated. It took several trips to Moorfields Hospital in London to establish that Gareth has cornea related problems and that his left eye will probably need a graft at some point in the future.

Just over a year ago Gareth got back in touch with Rookwood Sound and started to present The Saturday Sports show 2-6pm.

Gareth joined Insight Radio when the studio opened in Cardiff in the summer of 2009 and he says, ‘I’m very happy to be doing what I love and hope to be presenting shows with Insight Radio for many years to come.’
