Blind Man breaks South Pole Record

A former Royal Navy sailor is recovering after becoming the first visually impaired person to trek to the South Pole.

Alan Lock from North Somerset was part of a team of three men who spent 38 days pulling sledges 550 miles across Antarctica.

The 31-year-old, who began to lose his sight eight years ago, suffers from macular degeneration, meaning he has no central vision and is registered blind.

He is currently making his way back to Britain after completing the trek on Tuesday evening.
