Is the NHS failing patients with a visual impairment?

A recently published report claims that blind and partially sighted patients are often "forgotten" by the NHS.

A steering group from the Welsh Government found many people with sensory loss have problems accessing the health services they need.

The report also found that healthcare professionals and organisations are not being properly trained to recognise the needs of people with a visual impairment.

RNIB Cymru's Sarah Rochira said: “It is vital people with sensory loss are able to access the care, support and advice they need to live independent and healthy lives.

“If medical information is inaccessible to people, and if health services aren’t able to communicate with and understand their needs, this can have a direct impact on health outcomes for the individual and potentially place them at risk of harm.”
